Wellbeing at Corsham Primary School
Support Available to Children
All children at Corsham Primary School have time during the year to spend with the animals at school and in the growing areas, such as the polytunnel. Teachers plan activities for outdoor learning regularly. In addition, we have a Forest School day for every class where the children learn about nature and have the opportunity to create artwork from natural resources, build shelters and work in a team.
We have a variety of targeted wellbeing interventions for when there is an additional need identified by the following: Class Teacher, the Family Support Officer and the SEND team, in conjunction with the child’s family.
These are:
- Forest School Sessions: - these run throughout the year for all children, led by our Level 3 Trained Forest School Practitioner
- Nurture Club – this runs at lunchtime and at the start of the school day in the Ivern Room
- Outdoor Explorers – children have the opportunity to learn about our environment
- Gardening Club – a lunchtime club where children learn about growing plants and looking after the school animals
- PAT dog (Pets As Therapy) – who comes in once a week to spend time with children
- ELSA (Emotional Literacy Support Assistants) - trained Teaching Assistants who meet with the children once a week for a six-week block
- Sand tray Conversations - trained Teaching Assistants who work with children using sand to open up conversations
- Breakfast Club – a nurture club that runs before school
- Social Skills Groups – run by our Teaching Assistants to develop social skills
Support is also given through assemblies and the PSHE Curriculum.
