Local Area
Corsham Primary School is situated in the small Wiltshire town of Corsham only a few miles away from the beautiful city of Bath. The school is in a largely residential area of Victorian and post World War II properties, with some newer local housing developments. There are good local shopping and community facilities. The school is readily accessible with links by public transport being close to Bath and Chippenham mainline stations and the M4 motorway.
Pound Pill Site
The Pound Pill site is only a few minutes walk from the town centre and is built on the edge of a conservation area. The school grounds are extensive with wonderful views towards Salisbury Plain.
Broadwood Site
The Broadwood site is based approximately one mile out of Corsham town centre and serves the top end of Katherine Park and Corsham as well as the Rudloe community.
Links within the Community
Corsham is a quiet, historic market town, with its history in the wool trade and quarrying of Bath stone. The town is home to many beautifully constructed buildings; a major part of the town's history lies within its architecture. Several of the town's historic buildings are major tourist attractions and offer Corsham Primary School many wonderful opportunities for learning. Corsham Court
Corsham Court is perhaps the most architecturally significant building in Corsham. Originally a royal manor during the reign of Saxon Kings, it remained in the royal family (once owned by Catherine of Aragon and Katherine Parr) up until the Elizabethan era. The present house was built in 1582 by Thomas Smythe. In 1745 Corsham Court was purchased by the Methuen family and is still owned by them today. Corsham Court is also home to Bath Spa University's research centre and post graduate teaching. Parts of the grounds, buildings and significant art collection are open to visitors.
17th Century School and Almshouse
Situated just a few doors down from the School's Pound Pill site, the 17th Century School and Almshouse is a history lover's dream. Built in 1668 by Lady Margaret Hungerford, the Almshouses retain the original 17th century furnishings today. The interior is like stepping back into the past, with an original Victorian schoolroom complete with benches, box pew and pulpit. The building is open to the public and Corsham Primary pupils enjoy visiting the School and Almshouse as part of their historical study into the local area.
St Bartholomew's Church
The school has developed positive links with the local church, St Bartholomew's. Each year Corsham Primary School holds the annual Year 6 Leavers Assembly at the church, where pupils, staff and families are warmly invited to share and celebrate in their children's achievements at primary school. Class visits to the church are carried out within different year groups to support certain elements of the school's religious education curriculum.
The Pound
The Pound is an arts centre situated directly opposite our Pound Pill site, within the old Corsham Primary School buildings. The arts centre offers a year-round programme of performances, workshops, youth theatre and exhibitions, which our pupils and families take great advantage of.
Springfield Community Campus
Springfield Community Campus is a modern community hub, which opened its doors in August 2014. A local library, police station, gym and swimming pool is included within the campus, which Corsham Primary pupils are encouraged to access.
