We value the opportunity each month, to share news, reminders, issues, requests and celebrations with you, and of course, it goes without saying that if you would like to speak to your child's class teacher or any of the Senior Leadership Team, our doors are always open.

With the deadline for Primary Foundation Stage applications having just passed, we are already looking forward welcoming our new starters in September. A great deal goes into the preparation for both children and new parents/carers joining the Corsham Primary family. Here is a short Virtual Tour of Pound Pill and Broadwood.

Staff News

We welcome Mrs Kelly Crew to our Foundation Stage team at Pound Pill. Mrs Crew used to work in the Foundation Stage but left to spend more time with her young family in 2019. She has re-joined us to cover Mrs Jones' upcoming maternity leave, and we are delighted to have her back within the team. We are saying farewell to Mrs Jones on 10 March as she leaves to have her baby which is due later this month. We wish her all the very best and can't wait to meet her with her new addition to the Jones family in due course.

Also this month, we welcome Mrs Leanne Unwin to our TA team. Mrs Unwin is already known to the children as she is a Lunchtime Playworker at Pound Pill. Her role will now combine both positions together.

Children's Book Reviews

When StoryTown came to Corsham, they kindly donated a number of books to Corsham Primary. Flora W and Wynne L read Indiana Bones and the Lost Library over half-term and wrote some wonderful book reviews ...

This book is so down to earth. Most books tell the story in a way that seems too good to be true. Another thing I love about this book is how modern it is. The book includes a lot of modern landmarks and popular snack brands. Similes are used to describe how characters are feeling.

The book is about a girl called Aisha and her dog, Indiana Bones. Aisha's father, Dr Ghatak, is an archaeologist and his hobbies kind of rubbed off on his daughter. They live in Oxford and Aisha, Dr Ghatak and the talking dog, Indiana Bones have discovered an ancient relic that is like a portal into the past.

Conclusion: Yes, I would recommend it to people who like adventure and mystery. Follow-up notes: the descriptions are great. By Flora W.

For the past week I have been reading Indiana Bones and it is really good. It is about a girl, a dog and father, trying to get the avenger's treasure but on the way there are disasters and mind-changing catastrophes. I love this book because you keep on guessing about what is going to happen but then the story changes and it is also good because it has made words which make the book funny. I really enjoyed it; I am really glad I chose to read it. By Wynne L.

News from a former pupil ...

One of our former pupils has sent in her exciting cricket career news recently which has made us all very proud. We wanted to share her success with you. Having played for Wiltshire since the age of 11, Melissa S was selected for the Southern Vipers academy (coached by former England captain Charlotte Edwards) when she was 17. In addition to playing 3 seasons for the Vipers junior team she captained Hampshire team, Hursley Park, to 2 league titles and was in the team which won the 'Summer Smash' played at the Oval. In May 2021 she began commentating on women's games for local station Solent Sound and just 4 months later became the youngest ever commentator on the BBC's 'Test Match Special'. She spent last summer commentating on men's and women's games including Test Matches, The Hundred and the Commonwealth Games and will be back this summer once her exams are finished.

Cricket is the fastest growing women's sport in the UK and if her story would inspire any girl to play cricket, they can begin their cricket journey by joining the 'All Stars' programme run by Corsham Cricket Club which starts in May. Sports News

Swimming teams from both Broadwood and Pound Pill, entered a rally together with 5 local schools recently at Springfield. Broadwood did fabulously and came 2nd overall, very closely behind Pound Pill who won! A very successful and enjoyable afternoon was had by all. The splendid trophy has been presented in assembly - well done both teams; you did exceptionally well.

Crazy Hair Day!

Our wonderful PTA organised another Crazy Hair Day this year and there were lots of beautiful styles, colours, shapes and sizes to admire around school! Guess which teacher this is on the left!

The PTA raised a whopping £276.65.

Thank you to everyone who joined in and had fun to raise money for school resources.
